Open Doors, Changed Lives, and One Big Red Van

In New Zealand, Michael and Rosalind Trusty serve with Current Church, helping people follow Jesus and grow into disciples who make disciples. Their ministry brings together Bible teaching, youth activities, outreach to nearby families, and the training of future church leaders. In their latest update, the Trustys share how God is opening doors through changed lives, a growing welcome for children, and one very practical gift from their MCC family.

The Stronger Church Conference became a memorable example of that work. A young man arrived desperate to have God in his life. Since then, he has been discipled and baptized. Teaching encouraged those who attended, and connections with churches from around the country strengthened unity and extended the ministry’s reach. Current Church members also stepped forward to volunteer and help organize the conference, taking greater ownership rather than relying entirely on visiting mission teams.

The impact has continued beyond the conference. Māori children from emergency social housing beside the school where the church meets are coming to church, Bible studies, and Sunday school. Their presence is both an answer to prayer and a call to grow in Christ’s love.

Welcoming these children takes patience, wisdom, and more helping hands. Some church members are new Christians themselves and are still learning what it means to include children whose needs can be demanding. Cultural barriers and racism also complicate that welcome. The Trustys are helping the congregation look beyond those difficulties and recognize the privilege God has given them. Rosalind describes the opportunity as “an answer to prayer and an honour from God to get to teach.”

MCC’s generosity has helped make this outreach possible in a very tangible way: the big red van. It carries people to camps and regular youth activities, serves visiting mission teams, and has even been used by the school. The gift amazed Current Church members, who were deeply moved that another congregation would show them such generosity.

When the school asked to borrow the van, the Trustys saw an opportunity to serve their neighbors and build trust. Some people at the school remain opposed to the church meeting there. Lending the van offers another point of connection that may help soften those attitudes. It is a hopeful opening, and the Trustys are grateful for every opportunity to help.

As the ministry grows, the Trustys are continuing elder training and encouraging men to develop toward church leadership. They also urgently need an additional worker to help with children. Their hopes include a children’s minister and the opportunity to send a young person to Bible college to prepare for preaching ministry.

Please pray for wisdom in the outreach to children from emergency housing, the development of future elders, and another worker for children’s ministry. Through prayer and practical generosity, our MCC family can continue encouraging the Trustys as they share Christ’s love in New Zealand.
