Tyler & Emily Hewitt with Pioneer Bible Translators (Papa New Guinea)
God’s Word in Their Own Language
For over a decade, MCC mission partner Tyler & Emily Hewitt have served with Pioneer Bible Translators (PBT) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). A beautiful testament to their work on the ground is the long-time friendship with a local believer named Sesina.
After meeting at a local church, Emily prayed for a way to bring Sesina onto the translation office staff. Starting as a house cleaner, Emily helped Sesina develop her administrative skills so she could step into the role of office receptionist. Because the office serves over 17 different language groups, Sesina learned local greetings and spent countless hours listening to visitors' needs and faithfully praying with them in person and long after they left.
During her time on PBT staff, Sesina met her husband, Jacob. After he graduated from Bible college, they began serving at a church an hour outside of Madang—directly in the heart of one of PBT's active translation projects.
Equipped with literacy materials developed right in the PBT office, Sesina and Jacob began leading local-language literacy training for their community. For years, Emily and the team had prayed for inroads to reach this specific people group. God answered that prayer through Sesina and Jacob, beautifully demonstrating how PBT's investment in local leaders continues to multiply the impact of Bible translation in PNG.
